Xiaomi launches high‑capacity battery phones in Europe, skips India

Xiaomi announced that its flagship Xiaomi 18 Pro, equipped with a 7,000 mAh battery, dual 200 MP cameras and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, will be released across the European Economic Area, Turkey, Russia, Taiwan and Japan. The company will deliberately exclude India—the world’s second‑largest smartphone market—from the rollout, a decision analysts say carries significant financial risk.

In parallel, Xiaomi is preparing a global version of its Redmi Note 17 series. Certification filings from Thailand and Taiwan reveal a Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G slated for a possible September 2026 launch, featuring a 7,700 mAh battery (8,000 mAh in the Chinese model), up to 12 GB RAM, 512 GB internal storage and support for microSD cards up to 2 TB. Both moves highlight Xiaomi’s strategy to differentiate its overseas offerings with unusually large batteries and expanded memory options.
