Chinese smartphone makers expand high-capacity battery line
Overview
The high-capacity battery trend that began in May 2026 has accelerated through late September. Following the initial wave of 8,000–12,000 mAh models from iQOO, Huawei, and Honor, several manufacturers have introduced new high-capacity silicon-carbon and large-cell devices. Xiaomi expanded its lineup with the Redmi Note 17 series and the budget-friendly M100 in China. In mid-August, Xiaomi announced the global debut of the Redmi Note 17 series, beginning in Malaysia. This series includes the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, which features a 10,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, described as the largest ever in the Redmi Note franchise. Other models include the standard Redmi Note 17 with an 8,000 mAh battery and the Redmi Note 17 Pro with a 9,000 mAh battery. In China, the Redmi K100 Pro series, utilizing Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipsets, has seen mixed sales performance compared to its predecessor. In late August, Redmi officially launched the M100 in China, a budget-friendly device featuring a 7,900 mAh battery and a 6.9-inch LCD display. Concurrently, Realme expanded its presence in India and Brazil with the P4 series. The P4s 5G features an 8,000 mAh battery and a 144Hz AMOLED display, while the P4 Power model includes a 10,001 mAh battery. In late August, POCO launched its F9 flagship series. The F9 Ultra features an 8,050 mAh silicon-carbon battery and a 185Hz AMOLED display, while the F9 Pro includes a 6,330 mAh battery. Both utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. By early September, POCO expanded its X8 series in India and Singapore. The X8 Power features a 10,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100W wired HyperCharge and 27W reverse wired charging, while the standard X8 includes an 8,340 mAh battery. In early September, Oppo announced the Find X10 flagship series and the A7 Pro mid-range series.
