Xiaomi unveils HyperOS 4 with new AI features and design

Xiaomi has officially introduced HyperOS 4, its latest operating system update. The new version features a significant visual overhaul called ‘Soft Light Glass,’ which utilizes translucent surfaces, light refraction effects, and a layered interface design across the control center, widgets, and lock screen.

Performance optimizations are a core focus, with improvements to the HyperCore layer aimed at reducing unnecessary instructions and enhancing memory management. The system reportedly offers faster application launch speeds and improved stability during intensive use. Additionally, the update introduces Super XiaoAI 2.0, an intelligent assistant powered by the MiMo large language model, capable of tasks such as audio transcription and contextual note organization.

The beta rollout began in China on August 14, targeting flagship models including the Xiaomi 17 series, Mix Fold series, and various Redmi K-series devices. While the initial rollout is focused on the Chinese market, the update is expected to reach global users later. Notably, independent developers have already successfully ported the software to older hardware, such as the nine-year-old Xiaomi Mi6, demonstrating the lightweight nature of the new OS.
