Xiaomi launches SkyNomad range‑extender SUV series

Xiaomi unveiled the SkyNomad series, its first range‑extender (EREV) SUVs, with two models – the N70 and the larger N90. Both use a 1.5‑litre petrol engine solely as a generator for the electric drivetrain and a 70‑plus kWh battery. The N70 offers a 270 km pure‑electric WLTC range (up to 380 km with a 76 kWh pack) and 5.8 L/100 km fuel consumption after the battery is depleted; the N90 extends the electric range to about 370 km and consumes about 6.2 L/100 km, with a combined range of more than 1 500 km. Dimensions are roughly 5.3 m long, 2 m wide and 1.8 m high, with wheelbases of 3.08 m for the N90. The cabin is highly reconfigurable – front seats can swivel 180°, a fold‑out table creates a lounge or workstation, and a rear layout can become a sleeping area. Prices are expected to start around 250 000 CNY (≈ $35 k) for the N70 and above 300 000 CNY for the N90. Xiaomi plans to ship the first units in August 2026 with an inventory of over 10 000 vehicles, produced at its Beijing plant. The launch expands Xiaomi’s automotive portfolio beyond the performance‑oriented SU7 and YU7 models and targets families and remote‑work users, positioning the SkyNomad against premium Chinese SUVs such as those from BYD, Li Auto and AITO.
