Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 17 series, POCO X8 variants with huge batteries

Xiaomi introduced the Redmi Note 17 and Note 17 Pro in China, featuring a 7‑inch OLED display with 120 Hz refresh, Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 (base) or Snapdragon 6 s Gen 4 (Pro), and HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The standard Note 17 carries an 8 000 mAh silicon‑carbon battery, 50 MP rear camera, IP65 rating and AI‑driven fraud‑call detection. The Note 17 Pro upgrades to a 9 000 mAh battery, 50 MP sensor, 6.83‑inch 1.5K AMOLED panel, 67 W fast charge, reverse‑charge capability and full IP66/68/69K water‑dust protection, plus a five‑year battery‑health guarantee.

Leaked HyperOS code shows the POCO X8 as a rebranded global version of the Redmi Note 17 Pro, retaining the 50 MP + 2 MP camera module, Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset and a battery of roughly 8 340 mAh for some markets, while a version with an 8 340 mAh or 8 340 mAh cell is expected globally. A separate POCO X8 prototype reportedly includes a 9 000 mAh cell in the Indian variant. The POCO M8 Power may also be a rebranded Redmi Note 17.

The series is slated for an Indian launch on 6 August 2026, with possible spec tweaks such as 6 GB RAM/128 GB storage and local pricing. Pricing in China starts at 1 299 yuan for the base Note 17 and 1 599 yuan for the Pro. Analysts note the Note 17 Pro's camera sensor (50 MP, 1/2.76″) and 1080p video limit represent a step back from earlier high‑resolution, 4K‑capable models.
