GWM expands hybrid vehicle presence in Malaysia and New Zealand
Great Wall Motor (GWM) and its luxury division, WEY, are expanding their hybrid and luxury vehicle offerings across multiple markets. In Malaysia, GWM has launched the WEY G9 Hi4 HEV, a seven-seater luxury MPV priced at RM249,800. This self-charging hybrid model features a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and dual electric motors, providing a combined output of 358PS.
In New Zealand, GWM expects the new Cannon Hi4-T plug-in hybrid to more than double sales of its Cannon ute line, targeting fleet buyers to help meet Clean Vehicle Standards. The brand has seen a 40% year-to-date growth in New Zealand, aiming for a 5% market share.
In China, developments regarding the AITO brand show a shift toward manufacturing independence. Anhui Stelato New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. has been listed as a candidate for vehicle production qualification, potentially allowing the brand to transition from being produced by Chery Group to having its own manufacturing identity. Additionally, the Wey Gaoshan 8 HEV has entered the pre-order phase in China, featuring advanced LiDAR technology and high-end interior amenities.
