Xiquets de Valls perform human towers at Sagrada Família

The Xiquets de Valls human towers groups, Colla Vella and Colla Joves, performed at the Sagrada Família to honor the architect Antoni Gaudí. The event commemorated the centenary of his death and celebrated his historical connection to the world of castells.

During the tribute, two simultaneous 3-de-8 towers were raised inside the basilica, while various other formations, including 4-de-8 towers and pillars, were performed outside the temple. Approximately 600 participants took part in the ceremony, which aimed to unite culture, tradition, architecture, and spirituality.

Valls Mayor Dolors Farré described the performance as a “luxury that will probably never happen again.” She noted that Gaudí viewed castells as a metaphor for collective work and highlighted his ties to the city of Valls through his relationships with figures like sculptor Lluís Bonifàs and architect Cèsar Martinell.
