XPENG begins production of IRON humanoid robot
XPENG has transitioned its IRON humanoid robot from the research prototype stage to industrial production. The company successfully manufactured its first unit, which demonstrated autonomous walking capabilities immediately after exiting the assembly line without remote control.
XPENG reports that its humanoid production lines are more than 80% automated, utilizing quality control standards adapted from its electric vehicle manufacturing processes. The IRON robot features 76 degrees of freedom across its body, including 21 in each hand, allowing for high dexterity. It is powered by three proprietary Turing AI chips, providing up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power to run physical AI foundation models locally.
CEO He Xiaopeng stated that the company aims to build robots with full generalization capabilities for integration into daily life. XPENG intends to begin mass production of the humanoid robot by the end of this year.
