XPeng expands tech reach with new MONA L05 SUV and IRON humanoid robot
XPeng is expanding its technological footprint through both the automotive and robotics sectors. The company is preparing to launch the MONA L05, a mid-sized SUV expected to enter the market in the fourth quarter of this year. Positioned as a more affordable alternative to the G7, the L05 features a longer wheelbase and similar intelligent driving capabilities, though it utilizes a 400V architecture and MacPherson front suspension to maintain a competitive price point around 150,000 yuan.
Simultaneously, XPeng is advancing its humanoid robot project, IRON. Following a successful $900 million funding round involving investors like Tencent and Alibaba, the company aims to begin mass production of IRON by the end of 2026. The robot is slated for delivery in early 2027, with plans to enter the European market by the second half of that year. XPeng intends to use IRON initially for guided services within its own retail stores and campuses to collect real-world data for model training, eventually targeting broader commercial applications.
