XPENG raises $900 million for humanoid robot production
XPENG has announced a major advancement in its robotics division, securing over $900 million in a single funding round. This investment, led by IDG Capital with participation from Gaorong Ventures, Tencent, and Alibaba, brings the company’s post-money valuation to over $6.3 billion. The funds are earmarked for hardware and software development, Physical AI model training, and the establishment of mass production facilities.
The company has officially launched a production line for its humanoid robot, the XPENG IRON, at a specialized factory in Guangzhou. The line is currently operating in a testing mode, with full-scale serial production expected to begin by the end of this year. XPENG plans to commence commercial sales of the robot in 2027.
The XPENG IRON is a 173 cm tall humanoid weighing 65 kg, featuring 76 degrees of freedom. It utilizes an internally developed technology stack, including three Turing AI chips capable of 2,250 TOPS of computing power, allowing the robot to execute complex tasks via its Physical AI foundation model without remote control. Initial deployments of the robots will occur within XPENG’s own manufacturing and service sectors, including campus tours and retail assistance.
