Xpeng targets 500,000 annual European EV sales by 2030
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has announced an ambitious expansion strategy for the European market. At the Paris Motor Show, CEO He Xiaopeng revealed a goal to reach one million annual global sales by 2030, with 500,000 of those units coming from Europe. This target would position Xpeng to potentially surpass the European sales volumes of established brands like Ford and Opel.
To meet this demand, Xpeng is focusing on localizing production to mitigate the impact of import tariffs. The company currently utilizes the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, to assemble models such as the G6, G9, and P7+. However, leadership has acknowledged that current production capacity is insufficient to meet their long-term objectives, prompting discussions regarding further expansion and potential new manufacturing sites within Europe.
This push comes as Chinese manufacturers increasingly target the high-end European segment, leveraging technological innovation to compete with legacy brands. While Xpeng has delivered approximately 60,000 vehicles in Europe since 2020, its rapid growth aims to scale operations significantly over the next several years.
