Xunta de Galicia pushes primary‑care restructure and digital health record upgrade

The Galician regional government (Xunta de Galicia) has released a draft decree to overhaul the structure of the public health service (Sergas). The proposal creates a Directorate of Primary and Community Care that will report directly to each health area’s management and expands the role of nursing through a new Directorate of Nursing and Care. Additional responsibilities include managing demand, promoting health prevention, coordinating care levels, and overseeing support processes such as wait‑list reduction and resource allocation.

In parallel, the Xunta announced a public tender worth €8.75 million to modernise Sergas’s electronic health‑record system. The 36‑month contract, with possible two‑year extensions, will upgrade the IANUS platform to version 5, integrate all modules into a single system and improve interoperability, as part of Galicia’s digital‑health transformation strategy co‑financed by the Programa Feder Galicia 2021‑2027.
