Yael Trepy shows improvement after near-drowning in Sardinia
Cagliari Calcio forward Yael Trepy is showing significant signs of improvement after a near-drowning incident in a swimming pool in Sardinia. The 20-year-old French player was rescued from a villa in the Costa Smeralda area on August 16 after reportedly struggling in deep water.
Trepy was initially airlifted to the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari in critical condition, where he was placed in a medically induced coma and intubated due to severe respiratory failure and fluid in his lungs.
Recent medical bulletins from the hospital indicate a major breakthrough. Doctors have successfully reduced his sedation and suspended mechanical ventilation, proceeding with extubation. Trepy is now reported to be awake, conscious, and ‘vigilant and cooperative,’ showing no evident neurological deficits. While his respiratory and hemodynamic conditions are stable, he remains in intensive care for close monitoring due to inhalation syndrome. Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini expressed relief at the news, stating, ‘One step at a time, Yael.’
