Yahukimo shootout leaves 4 KKB members dead and 6 arrested

Security forces from the Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force engaged in a shootout with members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Dekai District of Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The confrontation occurred near the old KPU office on Miyaro Street. According to Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo, the operation was initiated following intelligence reports regarding a planned consolidation of the Eden Sawi Battalion, led by Wadanyon Habis Nare, at a temporary residence.

During the encounter, four KKB members were killed. Following the shootout, security forces apprehended six individuals suspected of being sympathizers or having links to the group. Authorities also seized evidence, including a locally made long-barreled firearm and 11 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition. The detainees have been taken to the Yahukimo Police Station for further investigation.
