KKB activity and security operations in Yahukimo

Overview

Security operations by the Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force and Yahukimo Police have targeted the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Dekai District of Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan.

In August 2026, authorities conducted raids to apprehend suspects involved in the July murder of Bripka Fredy Lukas Awes. This operation, which utilized intelligence and digital mapping, resulted in the arrest of two suspects, RM and DM, and the deaths of two others, AU and MP, who allegedly resisted arrest. Three suspects remained at large following the incident.

In September 2026, a subsequent shootout occurred near the old KPU office on Miyaro Street. Acting on intelligence regarding a planned consolidation of the Eden Sawi Battalion led by Wadanyon Habis Nare, security forces engaged KKB members, resulting in four deaths. Six individuals suspected of being sympathizers or having links to the group were arrested, and authorities seized a locally made firearm and ammunition.
