Yale University Faces DOJ Investigation Over Medical School Admissions

The U.S. Department of Justice concluded that Yale University’s School of Medicine violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act by using race‑based admissions preferences, prompting the department to seek a voluntary resolution. Yale’s president confirmed that the university is in talks with the DOJ while additional investigations into the college and law school admissions continue.

More than 150 Yale Law School students signed a letter urging the university not to settle before the investigation is complete, arguing that an early agreement would compromise due process and academic freedom. In parallel, eight state legislators who are Yale alumni sent a letter to President Maurie McInnis warning that a settlement could jeopardize Yale’s tax‑exempt status and its relationship with Connecticut, and they urged the school to fight the allegations.
