Yamaha launches premium Aerox‑E electric scooter in India

Yamaha has expanded its electric two‑wheel lineup in India with two new models. The EC‑06, unveiled on 2 February, is Yamaha’s first electric scooter for the Indian market. It is built in partnership with Bengaluru‑based startup River and assembled at River’s Hoskote plant in Karnataka. The EC‑06 is priced at US$1,860 (≈ ₹ 77 000), offers a 4 kWh battery, a claimed range of 169 km per charge and a top speed of 79 km/h. It is available only in select major cities.

Later, Yamaha introduced the Aerox‑E (also called Aerox E), an electric version of its popular Aerox 155 maxi‑scooter. The Aerox‑E is positioned as a premium offering, priced at about ₹ 282 000 (≈ US$2 950). It is powered by a 9.4 kW motor delivering 48 Nm of torque and a claimed top speed of 95 km/h. The scooter uses two removable 1.5 kWh batteries (total 3 kWh) for an advertised range of 117 km on the Indian driving cycle. It features multiple ride modes – Eco, Standard, Power and a short‑duration Boost mode – as well as traction control, a colour TFT dashboard with smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s Y‑Connect app, smart‑key operation and all‑LED lighting. Both models aim to capture India’s fast‑growing premium electric‑scooter segment, with the Aerox‑E targeting performance‑focused urban riders despite its higher price tag.
