Yangpyeong County accelerates major transportation and infrastructure overhaul
Yangpyeong County is accelerating a comprehensive transportation overhaul to improve regional connectivity and economic growth. A central component is the resumption of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway project. Following a feasibility re-investigation by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport starting in the second half of this year, the county aims for land compensation and construction to begin in 2029, with a target opening date of 2035.
In terms of rail, the county is proposing an extension of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line from Jipyeong through Yangdong to Wonju, in collaboration with Wonju City. Additional requests include KTX stops at Yongmun Station and the introduction of express trains during commuting hours.
Road infrastructure improvements include the four-lane expansion of Local Road 88 (Gangsang-Gangha) and National Route 37, as well as the construction of new bridges such as the Gangha Bridge and Bukhangang Bridge to connect areas separated by the Han River. To improve local mobility, the county is also reorganizing bus routes and expanding parking facilities in high-traffic areas like Seojong-myeon.
