Yangpyeong County targets economic growth via horse racing park and industrial complex
Yangpyeong County has announced a comprehensive economic strategy aimed at resolving long-standing local issues and fostering balanced development in its eastern region. A central component of this plan is the relocation and closure of the Yongmunsan Shooting Range, which has been a source of local concern for over 40 years due to noise and safety risks.
The county proposes transforming the approximately 1.43 million-pyeong shooting range site into an eco-friendly leisure and racing complex by attracting a new horse racing park. This initiative aligns with the government's plan to relocate the Gwacheon Racecourse. To support this, a ‘Citizen-led Promotion Group for Attracting the Horse Racing Park to Yangpyeong’ has been established to lead signature campaigns and coordinate with government agencies.
Additional economic measures include the development of the Yangdong General Industrial Complex, expected to be completed by 2030, and the decentralization of administrative functions to the Yongmun area to create a new growth hub. The county also plans to bolster the local economy through expanded use of the ‘Yangpyeong Love Gift Certificate’ and customized job support programs for middle-aged and elderly residents.
