Yaoundé police rescue children from suspected captivity

Authorities in Yaoundé, Cameroon, have rescued a group of children believed to have been held captive in a residential building in the Essos neighborhood. Following an anonymous tip, police discovered several minors, aged between 18 months and 20 years, inside a residence that neighbors described as having been transformed into a fortress over the last two years.

The Ministry of Social Affairs confirmed that measures have been taken to ensure the safety, protection, and psychosocial care of the children. Public broadcaster CRTV reported that 18 children were found during the operation.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances of the children's presence in the dwelling. Local officials stated that several suspects have been taken into police custody, including three individuals arrested immediately following the discovery.
