ICC sanctions players during India-Sri Lanka Test in Colombo

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued multiple disciplinary sanctions to players during the second Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya received an official reprimand and one demerit point for breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The charge involved the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings” after Jayasuriya struck boundary wedges with his bat following his dismissal on the second day. Jayasuriya admitted to the offense, which avoided a formal hearing.

Earlier in the match, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando were both fined 25 percent of their match fees and handed one demerit point each. The sanctions followed an on-field altercation where the two players engaged in inappropriate physical contact, specifically involving head-to-head contact, after Jaiswal was dismissed in the 17th over of India’s first innings. Both players admitted to the breach of Article 2.12 of the Code of Conduct.
