Disciplinary incidents in India-Sri Lanka Test match

Overview

During the second Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo, several disciplinary incidents and on-field tensions occurred.

On the second day of play, the Sri Lankan team protested against officials for continuing play despite poor lighting conditions. During this period, Sri Lankan player Prabath Jayasuriya was ruled out LBW. Following the dismissal, Jayasuriya reacted with visible anger, striking boundary cushions with his bat and throwing his gloves.

In response to these actions, the International Cricket Council (ICC) issued multiple sanctions. Jayasuriya received an official reprimand and one demerit point for the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings”. Additionally, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando were each fined 25 percent of their match fees and given one demerit point following an altercation involving inappropriate head-to-head contact.
