Yatsushiro launches child support initiatives following Kumamoto earthquake

In response to the Kumamoto earthquake, support initiatives have been launched in Yatsushiro City to provide safe spaces and care for affected children.

The Reconstruction of Organization for Japanese Education (ROJE) has established a support center at Yatsushiro Municipal Yatsushiro Special Needs School. This facility offers childcare, a place for children to gather, and learning support specifically targeting children with special needs. ROJE has also launched a crowdfunding campaign, running until August 31, to fund staff expenses and necessary equipment for these long-term operations.

Additionally, Yatsushiro City has opened a 'children's space' at Showa Elementary School. This initiative allows children to play freely to reduce stress while providing parents with the opportunity to return to work or attend municipal procedures. Local residents have expressed gratitude, noting that these services allow them to manage recovery tasks and employment for the first time since the disaster.
