Turkey’s local governments roll out new child science programs and award

The Sultangazi municipality held the seventh edition of its “Bilim Firarda” festival, organizing 12 hands‑on workshops for children aged 5‑13 in Zübeyde Hanım Park. Mayor Abdurrahman Dursun highlighted that the project began seven years ago by converting a retired bus into a mobile science centre and now reaches all 15 neighbourhoods of the district.

In the Yeşilyurt district, the new Yeşilyurt Bilim Merkezi will open applications on 13 July 2026. The centre will offer technology, robotics, coding, astronomy and other workshops for children aged 4‑14. Mayor Prof. Dr. İlhan Geçit said the aim is to nurture curiosity and produce the next generation of scientists.

Bilim Şahinbey, the science centre of Şahinbey municipality, received a TÜBİTAK award for “Most Workshop Activities” at the 5th Turkey Science and Technology Centres Summit. Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu accepted the prize, noting that thousands of students have taken part in robotics, AI, astronomy and design workshops throughout the year.
