Bison attacks in Yellowstone National Park injure visitors and damage vehicles

Yellowstone National Park has seen a series of recent bison incidents. A fisherman was warned just in time when a bison approached him from behind on a river, and park officials reminded visitors to keep at least 25 yards from large wildlife.

A bison rammed an SUV, bursting a tire and forcing the driver to pull over. The video, posted by Tonya Names, showed the tire deflating as the animal struck the vehicle. Earlier in July, 65‑year‑old Carl Isom‑McDaniel was thrown eight feet into the air by a bull during the park’s bison rut, sustaining a broken femur, while his grandson escaped unharmed.

Another encounter involved driver Troy Isdahl, who attempted to navigate through traffic when a bull bison charged the car’s front‑passenger tire, also popping it. Witnesses said the bull reacted after the driver got too close to its head. The incidents have prompted renewed safety warnings amid the rutting season, when aggressive behavior among bulls rises.
