Yellowstone National Park Safety Issues Spotlighted by Tourist Incidents

Visitors to Yellowstone National Park continue to ignore safety warnings, with recent reports of individuals walking onto the Grand Prismatic Spring despite signs and the risk of severe burns.

A separate analysis shows that July is the deadliest month in the park, accounting for 24% of all recorded deaths since 2007. Of the roughly 75 fatalities over the past two decades, vehicle crashes are the leading cause, responsible for more than 45% of deaths, followed by medical emergencies and drowning. Men and visitors aged 65 and older are disproportionately affected. The higher traffic volume and increased water‑related recreation in July contribute to the heightened risk.
