Yellowstone National Park seasonal road closures approaching
Many roads within Yellowstone National Park are scheduled to close in approximately one month, with most remaining closed until next spring. The only route that remains open year-round is the road connecting the North Entrance to the Northeast Entrance.
Specific seasonal schedules vary by location. For example, routes from the West Entrance to Madison and Old Faithful are scheduled to be open from April 17 through October 31, 2026. Other high-elevation areas, such as Dunraven Pass, the Beartooth Highway, and the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway, have shorter operating windows due to more frequent winter weather.
Travelers are advised that closing dates are subject to change based on weather conditions. Drivers entering from Wyoming, Montana, or Idaho are encouraged to monitor local transportation updates, such as WYDOT 511, to check live road statuses and weather impacts.
