Yellowstone National Park seasonal road closures

Overview

Yellowstone National Park is transitioning to its winter seasonal schedule. In late September, officials announced that many roads would be scheduled to close within approximately one month, with most remaining closed until the following spring. At that time, the only route remaining open year-round was the connection between the North Entrance and the Northeast Entrance.

By late October, specific closure dates were confirmed, stating that most roads and three major entrances—the West, South, and East entrances—are scheduled to close to regular vehicle traffic on November 1, 2026. While the main thoroughfares close, the route between the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana, will remain open year-round, subject to weather conditions. Winter-specific travel via snowcoach and snowmobile is expected to commence on December 15.
