Yellowstone National Park to close most roads and entrances on November 1

Most roads and three major entrances in Yellowstone National Park are scheduled to close to regular vehicle traffic on November 1, 2026, in preparation for the winter season. The West, South, and East entrances will close, marking the final day for most visitors to drive through the park's main thoroughfares.

While most roads close, the route connecting the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance in Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana, will remain open year-round, weather permitting. This path provides access to Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction, and Lamar Valley.

Winter-specific travel via snowmobile and snowcoach is expected to begin on December 15. Park officials advise visitors to monitor weather conditions, prepare for limited services, and carry cold-weather essentials. Surrounding communities in Montana and Wyoming remain open for year-round recreation.
