Yemen: 150 civilians killed in Houthi military escalation
The Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights has reported a significant escalation in violence by Houthi forces since September 3, resulting in at least 150 civilian deaths and over 200 injuries. The attacks, which involved ballistic missiles and drones, targeted residential areas and displacement camps in the Taiz, Hodeidah, and Marib governorates.
The humanitarian impact is severe, with approximately 85,000 people displaced from their homes. According to the International Organization for Migration, about 2,000 individuals have fled to Djibouti due to the rising instability. Beyond direct combat, the Ministry documented the looting of international organization offices and the kidnapping of journalists, government officials, and judicial workers.
In a separate humanitarian effort, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre’s ‘Masam’ project reported removing 1,303 mines and unexploded munitions across various Yemeni regions during the second week of September. This brings the total number of mines removed by the project since its inception to 590,491.
