Yemen Agriculture Ministry seeks seed regulation and EU export support
In Aden, Abdulmalik Naji, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, held high-level meetings to address agricultural development and regulatory oversight in Yemen.
Naji chaired the third meeting of the committee stemming from the Seed Advisory Council. The committee focused on evaluating the production, import, and circulation of seeds, seedlings, and fertilizers. Discussions centered on identifying legal and technical gaps to ensure compliance with the Seed and Fertilizer Law of 1998, improving supervision of imported seeds, and protecting local varieties to support food security.
Additionally, Naji met with the European Union Head of Mission, Patrick Simon, and the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Janet Sieben, to discuss enhancing cooperation for Yemeni agricultural and fisheries exports. The talks emphasized meeting European standards to facilitate market access. The European Union announced the signing of three new projects to support Yemen’s food and agricultural systems, with total funding amounting to 24 million euros.
