Yemen Boosts Border Health Measures Against Ebola Threat

Yemen’s National Center for International Health Regulations, part of the Ministry of Health, has elevated the state of readiness at all land, air and sea entry points to address the risk of Ebola (Bundibugyo strain) following recent cases reported in several countries. Travelers must now submit the health portion of the flight declaration before landing, and airlines are required to provide complete health data for passengers. All incoming travelers are to complete a National Health Security Card, enabling authorities to verify travel history for the past 21 days and flag visits to affected regions.

Thermal cameras have been checked and activated at airports and ports, with health security protocols enforced across all border facilities. Coordination among the health, immigration, transport and foreign ministries has been strengthened, and emergency rooms and rapid‑response plans have been activated in every governorate. A intensive training programme for frontline staff at Aden, Al‑Riyan and Seiyun airports covers case definitions, surveillance, infection‑control measures and response procedures. The measures fulfil Yemen’s obligations under the International Health Regulations (2005) and aim to protect public health while discouraging misinformation.
