Yemen endures extreme heat and scattered thunderstorms as temperatures surge above 40°C

The Yemen Meteorological Authority warned that Saturday will bring hot, humid conditions along the coastal and low‑lying areas, with daytime highs reaching 38‑41 °C and night lows dropping to the mid‑20s. Inland desert and plateau regions are expected to see even higher temperatures, up to 43 °C in places such as Seiyun and Ma'rib.

Scattered thunderstorms, some intense with hail, are forecast for the mountainous western and southern slopes, affecting parts of Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah and Hadhramawt. Winds will be moderate to strong, especially around the Socotra archipelago, and sea states will range from light‑moderate on the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to very rough in the Arabian Sea, prompting cautions for fishermen and vessels.

Authorities urged residents in hot and humid zones to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated, and follow safety measures against flash floods, lightning and strong winds in areas expecting rain.
