Yemen government forces launch ‘Dawn of Yemen’ offensive
Yemeni government forces have launched a major military offensive titled ‘Dawn of Yemen’ to reclaim territory from Houthi rebels and restore state authority. The operation, announced by Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi, has seen significant developments along the Red Sea coast.
Government-aligned forces, including the Giants Brigades and Nation Shield forces, report securing full control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait and Mayun Island. They have also seized the Kahbub front and strategic mountain ranges overlooking the vital waterway. These advances aim to secure international maritime traffic and reclaim vital coastal installations.
In support of the offensive, the Saudi-led coalition conducted airstrikes that reportedly destroyed 82 Houthi military targets across Saada, Hodeidah, al-Jawf, and Marib, including 11 mountain-based ballistic missile storages. Government spokespersons claim to have neutralized 1,860 Houthi fighters through 2,103 precise targeting operations.
The escalation has triggered a humanitarian concern, with the International Committee of the Red Cross reporting over 1,800 requests to locate missing persons since July. While government forces report progress in Marib and the western coast, some reports suggest uneven combat intensity across different regional fronts.
