Yemen conflict escalates as Ansar Allah targets Saudi infrastructure

Conflict in Yemen has escalated as Saudi Arabia intensifies military pressure against the Ansar Allah government. In response to air and maritime blockades, Ansar Allah forces have implemented a policy of “siege by siege and escalation by escalation,” targeting vital Saudi infrastructure.

Recent retaliatory actions include attacks on refineries in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, specifically impacting Aramco production in Jazan. Ansar Allah has also prohibited Saudi vessels from passing through the Bab el-Mandeb strait and has targeted the port of Mocha. These disruptions to oil and gas flows through Bab el-Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz have raised concerns regarding energy security for major economies in East Asia and Oceania, including India, Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea.

The RAND Corporation has noted that Yemeni armed forces are in a position of “exceptional strength” due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran. The research center suggests that Yemeni forces are acting as pragmatic players capable of influencing the broader geopolitical dynamics between the United States and Iran, potentially using their current leverage to seek a political solution to the war in Yemen.
