Yemen government forces gain territory in Taiz and Hodeidah amid intense Houthi clashes
Intense fighting between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and Houthi rebels has resulted in over 300 casualties, including combatants and civilians, since Thursday. The escalation is concentrated in the Taiz and Hodeidah provinces, with Houthi forces attempting to advance toward the strategic Bab al-Mandeb strait and the port of Mokha.
Government forces have reported significant territorial gains, including the recapture of the Hais district in Hodeidah, which links the Hodeidah, Taiz, and Ibb provinces. In Taiz, military operations have targeted various axes, including the Al-Barh front and the Al-Kadha area, where government troops have regained several positions.
In Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda, government-aligned air strikes have targeted Houthi positions, including missile launch platforms and command centers. Presidential Leadership Council chairman Rashad al-Alimi stated that the armed forces are capable of restoring full control and warned that the Houthis would bear the consequences of their escalation. The conflict has also triggered new waves of displacement, with families fleeing combat zones in Taiz and Hodeidah.
