Yemen conflict escalates with increased drone and missile strikes

The conflict in Yemen is shifting as both Houthi rebels and the internationally recognized government increase their use of drone technology and long-range strikes. Following Houthi attacks on government military camps that killed and injured dozens of soldiers, the Yemeni National Army has retaliated using remotely operated drones to target Houthi fighters and armored vehicles along the front lines.

This escalation suggests an end to the period of relative stability following the 2022 truce. The Port of Mokha has recently ceased operations after sustaining more than 35 missile and drone strikes. According to Dr. Abdulmalik al-Sharabi, director of the port, these attacks have killed 16 people and wounded 22, targeting economic zones, logistics facilities, and administrative buildings.

While large-scale ground offensives to redraw territory have not yet occurred, the increased use of ballistic missiles and drones allows for strategic economic and military disruption from a distance. The government is signaling a new policy of active retaliation against Houthi infiltrations and military buildups.
