Houthis seize 130km of Yemen's Red Sea coast in major offensive
Houthi forces have launched a significant military offensive in Yemen, seizing approximately 130km of the Red Sea coastline and capturing key locations including the port city of Mocha and Zuqar Island. This rapid advance has disrupted control previously held by the anti-Houthi National Resistance and has direct implications for global shipping routes.
The escalation has caused a severe humanitarian crisis. The UN International Organization for Migration reports that roughly 46,000 people have been displaced across the Taiz and Hodeidah governorates. Reports indicate that the fighting has resulted in more than 500 deaths.
In response to the conflict, the Saudi energy ministry announced the precautionary closure of the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions following attacks. The offensive is viewed by analysts as a significant development in the broader regional struggle involving Iranian-backed forces.
