Yemen displacement reaches 198,000 amid renewed fighting
Approximately 198,000 people, comprising 29,519 families, have been displaced in Yemen since military tensions escalated in July. According to the Executive Unit of the Camps Management in Yemen, the surge in forced migration is driven by renewed fighting between government forces and Houthi rebels, direct bombardment, and deteriorating security conditions.
Taiz has become the primary destination for the displaced, hosting 97,529 individuals across 15 districts. Lahij follows as the second largest host, accommodating 50,253 people, many of whom fled conflict zones in Taiz and Hudaydah. Other significant numbers of displaced persons have been recorded in Aden, Abyan, and Hudaydah.
Simultaneously, the Yemeni government has filed a complaint with the United Nations Security Council regarding threats to civil aviation safety. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Houthi forces in Hudaydah are using Iranian-origin weapons to target international air corridors over the southern Red Sea. The complaint alleges that Iranian Revolutionary Guard experts have assisted in modifying air defense weapons into missiles capable of remaining airborne for up to 25 minutes, prompting calls for urgent international action and a weapons embargo against the Houthis.
