Yemen displacement reaches 46,000 amid escalating violence
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that at least 46,000 people have been displaced in Yemen due to escalating violence over the past week. The displacement is primarily concentrated in the Hodeidah and Taiz governorates along the country’s west coast, with significant movement also recorded in Lahj, Aden, and Ibb.
Clashes have intensified near populated areas, leading to the emptying of entire villages in Maqbanah, Jabal Habashi, and Al Ma’afer. IOM Director General Amy Pope noted that many families are being forced to flee for the second or third time, often leaving with almost nothing. The situation is further complicated by the cutting of the Mokha–Taiz road, a vital supply route, which hinders the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance.
UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg has warned that the conflict is entering a “new and more dangerous phase” as fighting spreads. The IOM has called for safe, unimpeded access to affected populations and urged all parties to protect civilians and humanitarian workers.
