Yemen displacement reaches 76,000 since July amid rising conflict
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that at least 76,000 people have been displaced in Yemen since July due to escalating fighting. This figure represents a sharp increase from the 46,000 displaced recorded just days prior.
Taiz province has experienced the most significant impact, with approximately 50,000 people (8,300 families) fleeing districts including Jabal Habashi, Al Ma'afer, Maqbanah, Mawza, and Al Wazi'iyah. In Lahj, about 17,000 individuals from 2,819 families have been displaced, primarily from the Al Mudharabah area. Hodeidah has seen over 8,100 people from 1,374 families flee coastal regions such as Hays and Al Khokha, while Aden recorded the displacement of 1,100 people from 191 families.
IOM Director General Amy Pope warned that many families are facing repeated displacement for the second or third time, exhausting their remaining resources. She noted that expanding combat zones and disrupted communications are hindering the delivery of life-saving aid.
Simultaneously, Houthi forces have reported seizing control of several districts on the West Coast in Hodeidah and Taiz, as well as islands in the Red Sea, including Mayun Island in the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
