Yemen electricity infrastructure targeted by sabotage in Marib and Al-Mahrah
The Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy reported that the gas power plant in Marib has been taken out of service following acts of sabotage targeting power transmission lines. According to the ministry, the damage occurred in two stages: an initial strike on tower number 96 using a projectile, followed by a second act of sabotage on the transmission circuit. Technical teams are currently assessing the damage to determine the feasibility of restoring service.
In a separate incident in Al-Mahrah, the electrical grid was also targeted by unknown individuals who stole approximately 20 meters of cable. This act caused a main circuit breaker and 15 meters of the main cable to burn out, leading to power outages. Officials expressed concern that the damage to the electrical network could impact water supplies in Al-Ghaydah, as the affected lines feed essential water wells.
The Ministry has condemned these attacks on vital public utilities and is working with security authorities to investigate the incidents and protect the electrical infrastructure.
