Attacks on Yemen electricity infrastructure

Overview

Yemeni officials have reported ongoing attacks and sabotage against the nation’s electricity and energy infrastructure. Initially, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Adnan al-Kaf, condemned Houthi militia actions against state institutions and vital services, describing them as a “systematic and destructive approach” intended to disrupt daily life and hinder government rehabilitation efforts.

By late August, specific incidents of sabotage were reported in Marib and Al-Mahrah. In Marib, a gas power plant was taken out of service following projectile strikes on a transmission tower and subsequent damage to the transmission circuit. In Al-Mahrah, the theft of electrical cables caused circuit breakers to burn out, leading to power outages and threatening the water supply in Al-Ghaydah by affecting essential water wells.
