Yemen faces renewed conflict as Houthi attacks intensify

The resurgence of hostilities between the Ansar Allah movement, commonly known as the Houthis, and Yemen's internationally recognized government has raised fears of a return to full-scale war. Following a period of relative calm, the Houthi movement, which maintains close ties to Iran, has intensified attacks on areas controlled by the Saudi-backed government.

The ceasefire collapsed following strikes attributed to the Saudi Arabian air force at the Sanaa airport. This escalation occurs amidst broader Middle East tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The Houthis have increased strikes on Saudi infrastructure and vessels, while also announcing blockades of Red Sea ports, a region critical to global hydrocarbon trade.

Civilians are facing renewed displacement and fear. Residents in Mocha, which had previously served as a refuge for those fleeing fighting in Hodeidah, report constant threats from Houthi missiles and drones. The instability is compounded by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Tehran, further complicating the regional security landscape.
