Yemen government approves 20% salary increase for civil servants
The Yemeni cabinet met in the temporary capital Aden and, under Prime Minister Shuaib Mahsen Al‑Zindani, approved the executive rules for decision No. 14/2026, raising civil‑service salaries by 20 % for staff and contract workers according to their grade levels.
The same meeting endorsed the creation of an agricultural research station on the island of Socotra to boost plant and animal production, and agreed in principle to increase funding for the agricultural and fishery promotion fund pending coordination with the finance ministry. The cabinet also highlighted a new Saudi Arabian grant of $150 million in oil derivatives to operate power‑generation plants, aimed at easing Yemen’s electricity shortages.
These measures were presented as part of broader efforts to improve public services, address the cost‑of‑living decline caused by inflation and a devalued rial, and support economic development in the government‑controlled areas of the country.
