Yemen Government calls for UN intervention against Houthi rebels

Yemen's Vice President, Abdalá Abdulkader Al Alimi-Bawzer, has called for urgent international intervention at the United Nations General Assembly to address the escalating conflict with Houthi rebels. Al Alimi-Bawzer criticized the international community's lack of decisive action, stating that resolutions without implementation only prolong wars and that the absence of effective intervention benefits terrorist militias.

The Houthi rebels, who are allied with Tehran, have recently resumed combat with government forces following a four-year truce. A rapid offensive has allowed the group to seize control of much of the northern shore of the Bab el Mandeb strait, a vital maritime route for trade between Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Conflict is currently concentrated in the Kahbub mountains in southwestern Yemen. The Yemeni government is seeking a strategic partnership to promote stability rather than the perpetual management of crises.
