Yemen government forces seize Bab el-Mandeb Strait and Kirfan Mountain

Yemeni government forces, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, have made significant territorial gains against Houthi rebels during the seventh day of the ‘Yemen Dawn’ military operation. Government forces announced they have secured full control over the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait and Mayun Island, strengthening their military position near vital international maritime routes.

In the Taiz governorate, government troops reclaimed the strategic Kirfan Mountain in the Ash-Shamayatayn district. While fighting intensifies, communication services have been disrupted across much of Taiz, leading some residents to rely on satellite internet, though reports indicate Houthis have begun seizing such devices in areas they control.

The conflict continues to escalate regional tensions, with Houthi missile and drone activity posing threats to Saudi Arabian infrastructure, including recent strikes near Riyadh. The war remains a central component of the broader geopolitical rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

On the humanitarian front, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has warned of deteriorating conditions for displaced persons in Lahij and Aden governorates. Civilians fleeing Houthi attacks are struggling to survive in makeshift camps with critical shortages of food, clean water, and essential medical services.
