Yemen government intensifies deterrence strategy against Houthi militias
The Yemeni government is implementing an expanded deterrence strategy aimed at neutralizing Houthi military capabilities and restoring state institutions. This approach has shifted from defensive reactions to proactive strikes targeting Houthi command centers, drone launch platforms, missile warehouses, and supply lines.
Fayadh Al-Nu'man, Undersecretary of the Yemeni Ministry of Information, stated that these military operations seek to exhaust Houthi militias. He noted that Houthi escalations, including attempts to establish an air bridge with Tehran and attacks on shipping in regional and international waters, have placed the 2022 truce at risk of collapse.
The strategy also encompasses economic and security measures to disrupt Houthi financing and smuggling networks. Proactive military actions, including the use of long-range drones by legitimate forces, aim to reclaim the initiative and prevent Houthi forces from maneuvering or mobilizing effectively across multiple fronts.
