Yemen healthcare system collapses amid renewed civil war

Yemen’s fragile healthcare system is facing collapse as a resurgence of civil war overwhelms medical facilities. The escalation involves Iran-backed Houthi rebels advancing against government forces supported by Saudi Arabia.

Medical centers are struggling to manage a surge in trauma patients, often turning away pregnant women and others with non-combat injuries to prioritize the wounded. Shortages of medicine and the flight of medical workers have further strained resources. The conflict has displaced over 130,000 people and exacerbated existing hunger and malnutrition issues.

In cities like Aden, hospitals have reported being unable to provide beds for those in need. Therapeutic feeding centers are also struggling to cope with the rising number of vulnerable children arriving in acute crisis due to delays in care and widespread food insecurity.
