Yemen: Houthi militia accused of child casualties and seizure of Mocha

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented that the Houthi militia is responsible for the killing and injury of over 12,600 Yemeni children since early 2017. The report details 5,495 deaths and 7,124 injuries, noting that among the deceased were 712 infants. Causes of death include sniper fire, indiscriminate shelling of residential areas, landmines, and massacres, particularly in the Taiz governorate. Additionally, 514 children died due to sieges and the lack of medical supplies and oxygen.

In a separate military development, Houthi forces have seized control of the coastal city of Mocha. This shift has triggered a large-scale displacement of residents toward Aden. In response to the influx of displaced persons and the changing military landscape near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, authorities in Aden have declared a state of alert and implemented intensive security measures, including increased patrols and checkpoints at the city's northern and western entrances.
